“DelRey – A Nostalgic Masterpiece of Chocolate Excellence Stepping into DelRey is like stepping into a world where craftsmanship and passion reign supreme. This iconic chocolatier in the heart of Antwerp carries an aura of nostalgic excellence, a place where time seems to honor tradition rather than change it. Every bite here is an experience—perfection wrapped in chocolate. Their chocolates aren't just confections; they're artistry in its purest form. The outer shell snaps delicately under your bite, revealing a silky, decadent ganache that melts effortlessly on your tongue. Whether it's the deep, velvety richness of their dark chocolate or the smooth, creamy embrace of their pralines, every piece tells a story of dedication, precision, and love for the craft. And then, there are the macarons—exceptional in every way. Light, airy, with just the right chew, each one bursts with balanced flavors that linger long after the last bite. The almond cake? Simply to die for, a masterpiece of texture and taste that feels like a warm embrace. The service is as refined as their creations—warm, hospitable, and effortlessly elegant. The ladies behind the counter embody professionalism and grace, making you feel not just like a customer, but like a guest...

“I initially stopped by Chocolatier Del Rey to pick up a few gifts, but the sheer beauty and variety of their chocolates quickly tempted me further. While many shops in Belgium unfortunately lack accessibility, Del Rey exceeded my expectations. A kind staff member immediately came to assist me with my pram, making me feel incredibly welcome. Inside, the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. The staff were incredibly patient and helpful, answering all my questions and offering thoughtful suggestions based on my preferences. The display of chocolates was simply stunning, with a wide variety of decadent and beautifully presented treats. I purchased some gift boxes and indulged myself with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic chocolates for myself….. They were absolutely divine! It's a shame they only have two shops in the world (Antwerp and Tokyo) and don't ship to the UK due to customs restrictions - as I would love to enjoy their creations more often ;-) My experience at Del Rey was truly exceptional, and I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates exceptional chocolate.

“Early January 1965, when I first came to Antwerp for a performance, I walked past a shop with pralines on the De Keyserlei. If I remember correctly, it was a branch of Leonidas, at the beginning on the left on the lei. I decided to buy a box as soon as I had received my fee. After staying overnight at the Tourist Hotel in the Pelikaanstraat, I spent a modest amount of money on a box of pralines the next day. On the train back to the Netherlands I tasted my first Belgian chocolate. It tasted like more, much more. On a subsequent visit to Antwerp, I wandered around the area around the station, passing Del Rey’s shop in Appelmanstraat – still a shop at the time. The displayed pralines beckoned, so I gave in and bought a box. With a slight blush of fear on my cheeks, I paid the exorbitant amount in my eyes, thinking: that would be the last time. But once on the train back, I realised that I had made a discovery: the best pralines, or as I called them ‘bonbons’, in the world. Sometimes money is no object. As soon as I was back...

“I first became acquainted with Del Rey - almost 36 years ago now - when I started working at Rosy Blue. Always impressed by the beautiful chocolate creations and cakes during the end of the year, Valentine's Day, Easter, ... January 6th is my parents' wedding anniversary and on that day a King's cake is simply a must! My all time favorites are the seafood 😊 Congratulations to the entire team for 75 years of perfection and friendliness.

“In the early 90s I first came into contact with DelRey at the age of 9. She entered our living room in the form of a cookie. Quality was a top priority in our home and DelReY quickly became a household name for us to this day. That innocent cookie grew into the basis of what quality meant. Later we were allowed to choose pastry from the then already progressive range. I myself then went for a classic crème brûlée mother for millefeuille. Later in the 90s the famous Caraibe was introduced a cake that has been an indispensable part of our home ever since. To this day DelRey knows how to distinguish itself by the use of craftsmanship, the use of high-quality raw materials and the continued innovation of techniques within pastry. This combination always leaves your taste buds wanting more, experimenting with the range was challenging and sometimes a difficult task. The griotte, or a contemporary chocolate cake with caramelized hazelnut cream? These are just a few from the full range but they can always wake me up for it.

“I met my love from Antwerp over 10 years ago. He quickly conquered me - a Dutch person. The delicious pralines and cookies from del Rey were and still are part of our enjoyment, tasting each other together. We now live in Den Bosch, he is still in Antwerp every week and how wonderful when he comes home with a bag from del Rey. Always delicious and always too much!

“Kortijk was my city. My parents hid Jewish people from 1943 until the end of the war. A mother and son (18 months), a sister of 16 years and a niece of 4 years. With many difficulties. We got through it unscathed. The Jewish family came back to Antwerp. I worked as much as possible, I didn't want to lose that little brother. The parents went into the diamond business - it worked. From 1950 we drank tea at DelReY. I have been living near Ghent for about 60 years, I pass by sporadically and then come home with about ten lemon cakes from DelReY. Keep up the good work, many thanks, the saleswomen are great, big compliment!

“Going to DelReY means that there is a party coming up! Birthdays, Christmas and New Year are always accompanied by enjoying very tasty pralines and extremely fine pastries from DelReY. These delicacies are also not missing when visiting a friend in Brussels or at the coast. They are always enjoyed and appreciated enormously. Hopefully we will be able to enjoy your delicacies for many years to come.

“In the late 70s I enjoyed my first tasting of DelReY's delicacies. That was through an aunt of mine. She brought your delicious dessert cookies when she visited my parents. Later I bought the fine pastries at DelReY myself. Between 2010 and 2012 I attended evening school as a 'chocolatier' in Antwerp and my interest in designing chocolate works of art grew. When I travel, I always visit the most important chocolate maker in town. I have tasted delicious pralines all over the world! But when I'm in Antwerp, I always pop in at DelReY. Dessert cookies, bonbons and Christmas logs are my favorite. Which I've shared a lot with my parents and friends. In the meantime I live in 's Hertogenbosch (Netherlands) with my partner. And yes! All my Dutch friends are addicted to DelReY excellent chocolate creations. keep up the good work!
